Job Description

The Engineering Manager at Graduate Roosevelt Island is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the engineering department, ensuring the property, equipment, and grounds are maintained in a safe and acceptable state of repair. This position requires strong leadership skills to supervise and train engineering staff, ensure compliance with all laws and regulations, and manage the department's budget effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plans to maintain property, equipment, and assets in optimal condition.
  • Supervise and train Engineering staff in Customer Service, SOPs, and Loss Prevention.
  • Create schedules and manage the department's budget.
  • Participate in energy conservation programs and safety meetings.
  • Ensure emergency and life safety equipment is regularly inspected and maintained.
  • Review and address maintenance requests promptly and efficiently.
  • Support special projects, renovations, and vendor contract administration.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a hotel or related field, or relevant technical certification.
  • FLSD certification preferred; stationary engineer’s license if required.
  • Proficiency in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; must be able to lift heavy objects occasionally.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to multitask, and prioritize departmental functions.
  • Warm, friendly demeanor with excellent guest and employee relation skills.
  • Must maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and ability to multitask.
  • Must demonstrate confidentiality, attention to detail, and ability to handle complex information.
